What actually happens at an outdoor workout?
The outdoor workouts are varied and you can find class details in the listings. In general a workout will include:

• warm up and pre-stretching to get your body ready for exercise
• a variety of running exercises to improve cardio-vascular fitness
• circuits and resistance work to tone up the body.
• cool down and post-stretching to improve flexibility and relaxation

How much do classes cost?

Each fitness group wil have different prices - best to contact the group you want to join directly to find out the costs.

I don't feel very fit - will I survive?
Yes - you will survive! The workouts are designed so that everyone can go at their own pace and see improvement each week. The classes are relaxed and friendly - you can push yourself if you want to or you can take breaks and have a breather at any time too. Open-gyming is an enjoyable way to get fit in the fresh air. Here is some feedback from people who have come along to Open Gym....

" When I first saw the flyer I was undecided as I thought I might be too unfit and everyone else would be super keen but I booked one session to give it a go and have been every week since. It is a great way to get fit while getting some fresh air and meeting people in your area. I really look forward to the classes now and would definitely recommend them." Victoria, Hilly Fields

" When i first heard about Open Gym i thought it was a great idea as it would get me out in the fresh air and meant not having to sign a gym contract. I was really keen to give it a try but slightly apprehensive as hadn't done much exercise for quite a while and so thought I wouldn't be able to keep up. Fortunately for me the class allows you to go at your own pace, so doesn't put you off, and with the help and encouragement of the instructors each lesson enables you to push yourself a little bit more.

Although the lessons doesn't necessarily become easier, you definitely get more from them each week, leaving you feeling very pleased with yourself and much more energetic !
" Coral, Hilly Fields

Do you hold outdoor workouts all year round?
Yes, we will be running outdoor workouts every week, all year round

What happens if it rains?
Open-gyming still takes place rain, snow or shine! We soldier on regardless of the great British weather - it's all part of our friendly determination to help get you in shape! We’ll find some big trees to shelter under to do our exercises. And remember, you are only 5 minutes from your home and a hot shower at the end of your class!

What should I bring?

Wear trainers and loose, comfortable clothes. If it is cold or wet bring a waterproof jacket. Try not to bring a bag or anything else to carry because we will be moving around the park all the time.

Who teaches the classes?
All the instructors are qualified and recognised by the Register of Exercise Professionals and are qualified First Aiders.

I can't find a class in my local park - what shall I do?
If you would like an outdoor fitness group in your local park, send an email to jo@opengym.co.uk. If you can muster together a group of 5 people, then I will find a fitness instructor to come to your park and start up an Open Gym in your neighbourhood.
